GMU welcomes students from 115 nationalities, first veterinary batch

Ajman, UAE: Gulf Medical University (GMU) welcomed its latest cohort at its White Coat Ceremony 2026 on Wednesday, marking the institution’s student representation from 115 nationalities since its establishment.

The ceremony was held at Thumbay Grounds, with Thumbay Group Founder and President Dr Thumbay Moideen as chief guest and GMU Chancellor Prof Manda Venkatramana presiding.

Addressing the students, Moideen said GMU had grown from a university in the Gulf into an institution with a global presence. Venkatramana told the students that the white coat represented the beginning of their professional journey. He urged them to remain curious, acknowledge what they did not know and balance scientific knowledge with compassion.

Students from medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, medical laboratory sciences, anaesthesia technology, medical imaging sciences, audiology and speech-language pathology, optometry, healthcare management and AI in healthcare took their professional oath. Students of the Doctor of Medicine, Graduate Entry MD, Biomedical Science and Thumbay International Pathway Programme also participated.

A separate ceremony was held for GMU’s first batch of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students. Dr Kaltham Ali Kayaf, Director of Animal Health and Development at the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, joined as chief guest and administered the white-coat ceremony.

The university said the upcoming Thumbay Veterinary Hospital at Thumbay Medicity would further its integrated approach to human, animal and environmental health.

Established in Ajman in 1998, GMU is part of the Thumbay Group and offers programmes across medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, health sciences, veterinary medicine, healthcare management and AI in healthcare. Its clinical training network includes Thumbay University Hospital, Thumbay Rehabilitation Hospital and Thumbay Labs.
